In the Year 2029

Here's William Grieder in the Winter 2004 issue of 1st of the Month:

I've had beer-drinking sessions with young people in which I announce one rule -- let's not talk about current politics and issues. Let's talk about what you want this country to become, say, 25 years from now.Once they get over a natural hesitation (nobody wants to sound like a fool), the conversation becomes rich, illuminating and contentious. Once you have articulated a vision of the future, then you can work your way back to the present and talk about how the country might get there. At a minimum, it's a lot more fun than droning on about how hopeless things are.

In the year 2029:

The USA's Social Security trust fund will become insolvent.

The last of 78 million baby boomers will retire.

BlackBerry software may stop working.

Ray Kurzweil and Mitch Kapor will settle their "Turing Test" wager.

Egypt's population will hit 123 million.

Western Australia will celebrate its 200th year of settlement.

Leases expire for both Minute Maid Park (formerly "Enron Field") in Houston, Texas and Veteran's Stadium in Philadelphia.

Mark Wahlberg will visit the "Planet of the Apes."

"The Terminator" will get sent back to 20th century Los Angeles.

The astrological chart of England's Prince William will feature a "grand trine."

A partial solar eclipse will occur over North America on January 14th.

CIA files pertaining to the Kennedy assassination will be opened.

And if I am still around, I will probably still be making stupid lists.
