just another word for nothin' left to lose, twice

Elanit Kayne has lost every possesssion she owns, twice: for the first time as part of a December 2002 art piece and for the second time in Hurricane Katrina. Her very moving account of surviving the storm is making the rounds of Chabad sites.

In the art piece, I felt fortunate to participate and acquire one of those possessions: a volume of the complete poems of Anne Sexton. I didn't have the heart to adopt from her a siddur that, according to its inscription, was a gift on her becoming Bat Mitzvah.
