Most memorable quote in the April 2006 Monthly Review's biographical profile on Vito Marcantonio, about progressive political organizing:

There’s no substitute for door-bell ringing.
Republicans don’t climb stairs.

Among other interesting tidbits in the profile is the fact that Cardinal    Spellman denied Marcantonio, a Catholic who was administered last rites by a priest, a Catholic burial.




Incidentially, the U.S.A.'s current presidential administration irrefutably shows that Marcantonio was quite wrong    about    Republicans and stairs.
