Mickey Mouse is Dead

Punk Planet # 74 continues the magazine's creep towards becoming the punk equivalent of Harper's (which is fine), with a Lawrence Lessig interview. Interview was conducted in part by the esteemed Jim DeRogatis and was originally broadcast here.

Most "punk" bit:
My favorite copyright scholar, L. Ray Patterson, loved to say that the relationship between the author and the publisher is the same relationship as the cow to the cattle rancher.

Most "planet"-ary bit:
I think it's awful that kids engage in behavior all the time in all sorts of contexts that they self-consciously know is illegal and they think, "Well, this is just the way that we live."

But my response is, let's find a way to make the laws make sense with these technologies. Because the fact is, it's not that our kids are deeply immoral, it's that the law renders their behavior illegal in a way that does not make sense in the 21st century.
