Why every house needs a big book about Marx
(and a fire extinguisher)
Tariq Ali, some weeks back:
"One of the things I would strongly advise against is any tendency to try and judge a book exclusively by its sales.
"And sometimes, to give you an example which a colleague of ours used recently, you have to have objects in a house which you don't often use but are absolutely necessary to save that house, like a fire extinguisher. How often do we use that?
"So a big, good book on Marx I would compare to a fire extinguisher -- always useful to have in the house, for reference."
Thus spaketh in this video, approximately 2 and a quarter hours in.
Note that Ali does not advise one to attempt to use the big, good book on Marx as a fire extinguisher.
TA is the easiest speaker to transcribe that we have ever heard.
